Photographer Alexander Gardner, best known for his Civil War photos and images of Abraham Lincoln, came to the U.S. from Scotland in 1856 and began work with photographer Mathew Brady, eventually managing Brady's Washington, DC, studio. Until 1872, he photographed Indian people who came to Washington, DC, as part of tribal delegations and other visits. No other collection history information available.
