Formerly owned by Tarhe ("The Crane," 1742-1818, chief of the Wyandot in Ohio) and said to have been passed down in his family; given as a friendship gift to George Ellicott (1760-1832, Quaker emissary to the Indians of the Upper Sandusky and founder of Ellicott City, Maryland); passed down in the Ellicott family until 1926, when it was lent to MAI by John Bentley Lea (1881-1945, said to be a great-great-grandchild of George Ellicott); donated to MAI at a later date.
