Formerly owned by the Nez Perce Chief Joseph (Hinmuuttu-yalatlat/Thunder Rolling Down the Mountain, 1840-1904); surrendered to General Nelson A. Miles (1839-1925, U.S. Army) in 1877 in the Bear Paw Mountains, Montana Territory; inherited by General Miles' children, Cecelia Miles Reber (Mrs. Samuel K. Reber, 1869-1952) and Major Sherman Miles (1882-1966); donated to MAI in 1925.
