Formerly owned by Solomon Brown (Tsimshian, ca. 1887-1970); transferred at an unknown date to Pat Phillipson (a Prince Rupert, British Columbia, fur dealer who also bought and sold Native artifacts); sold or given to Alex Rasmussen (ca. 1887-1945, collector and superintendent of schools in Wrangell and Sitka, Alaska) in July 1930; lent by Rasmussen to the Wrangell Institute (a Native boarding School in Wrangell, Alaska) at an unknown date and presumably transferred to the Institute's possession with Rasmussen's death in 1945; sold to Susan Barrow (Mrs. Henry D. Barrow, 1907-1988, teacher at the Wrangell Institute) in 1945; donated to MAI by Mrs. Barrow in 1948.
