Owned and used by Ishi (Yahi, ca. 1860-1916) during his time at the University of California Museum of Anthropology in San Francisco (1911-1916); collected from him between 1911 and 1916 by anthropologist Dr. Alfred L. Kroeber (1876-1960, professor at the University of California, Berkeley, who was instrumental in providing a home and employment for Ishi at the university museum); acquired by Dr. Charles E. Grayson, an authority on traditional archery, at an unknown date; donated to MAI in 1963.
