Collection History:

In 1867, A. Zeno Shindler took over the Robert W. Addis Photographic Gallery, previously owned by James Earle McClees, in Washington, D.C. He was then commissioned by William Henry Blackmore, an English collector, to make prints and a catalog of Blackmore's photograph collection for an exhibit at the Smithsonian. At this time, Shindler sold many of McClees' 1857-1858 delegation portraits to Blackmore, and in the process of cataloging and reprinting them, he claimed authorship to these and other photographs in Blackmore's collection. From 1867 to 1869, Shindler himself photographed many delegations that came to Washington, D.C. No further collection history available.
