Said to have been owned by Seminole war chief Osceola (ca. 1803-1838); collected or taken from him by Dr. Jacob Rhett Motte (1811-1868, U.S. Army surgeon) at Fort Marion (St. Augustine, Florida); acquired by Dr. George Jackson Fisher (1825-1893, an obstetrician and collector living in Ossining, New York) in 1848; acquired by the Union Free School, District One, Ossining, New York, probably after Fisher's death; donated to MAI by the Union Free School in 1961.
