Collection History:
Anthropologist, naturalist, and author George Bird Grinnell (1849-1938) worked among Plains tribes, and especially the Northern Cheyenne, from the 1870s onward. Photographs taken during his fieldwork, either by his wife Elizabeth Curtis Grinnell or Julia Tuell (wife of a teacher on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation), probably accompanied the objects he donated to MAI in 1922.
