Collection History:

Before he was hired by George Heye in 1908, Mark Raymond Harrington was a partner at "Covert and Harrington, Commercial Ethnographers," a New York City company that accumulated and re-sold ethnographic objects and built museum exhibits. Photographs by Harrington from this period were probably sold to George Heye or donated to MAI at a later date.
